Happy Valentine's Day!

Today was wonderful. Early this morning, I set up a craft so the girls could paint their own t-shirts to wear to dinner tonight. This afternoon, we all enjoyed opening gifts (I was given diamond earrings from Tiffany's!) and then we went to our favorite sushi restaurant for dinner. After the girls went to bed, Sean and I enjoyed a little alone time (wink wink nudge nudge) and I just watched Lost and had a good beer while the family sleeps. Life is good.

Pre-Valentine Fun

The girls enjoyed some fun this week preparing for Valentine's Day tomorrow. Handmade cards were created with love for the grandparents and the house was decorated with 49 hearts that Dillen cut out! She wanted to get to 100 but thought 49 was a better number when she got to it. :)

We don't have a babysitter for tomorrow, but Sean and I are fortunate that the girls love sushi just as much as we do. So, we are heading to our local favorite restaurant, Station Sushi, for some grub!

Here's wishing you all a day full of love tomorrow - and beyond!

XOXO!

It's International Pancake Day!

Did you know that? I didn't. I heard it on the radio later in the day today. Coincidentally, we made Pancake Puffs for the first time this morning. Dillen has seen the commercial a hand full of times and had been begging me for them for months. I finally gave in and purchased the contraption from the online store a few weeks ago.

It was a good purchase:

Corteo

We took the girls to see the Cirque show Corteo on Friday night and boy do I wish we could afford to go again! What an amazing production. As a Christmas gift to my family, I bought four front row seats for the 4PM show. The girls have been so excited since the circus tents are very near our home and they see them often. They knew we were going to be going but they had no idea what to expect. Sean and I have enjoyed two Cirque shows pre-kids - once in Las Vegas and once in Seattle. Watching the troupe again with two wide-eyed little girls was even more enjoyable.

Even though she had her own seat, Roxy sat on my lap throughout most of the show. She never squirmed, never got bored, never got scared, never lost interest, never etc. In fact, she was so "into" the show that it was almost like she was in a trance - every so often she would come out of it to yell "Mom!" and point at something she wanted to be sure I was seeing. Dillen enjoyed it also but she is more sensitive and wasn't sure how to take in some of the acts. She knew everything was make-believe but I think her concern for some of the performers came from a deeper place. She's a unique little girl who is smarter then a whip and needed to check in with Sean and me once in a while. However, Dillen received several winks and high fives from many of the performers which thrilled her beyond belief. Whenever she knew all was well, her eyes were lit up and her laugh was loud.

There was a 30 minute intermission when we allowed the girls to each pick out a souvenir. Dillen chose a really cool looking mask and Roxy chose a balancing wooden block with 6 cools balls thingy. We also got them a large bag of M&Ms to get through Act II. When the show was over, Roxy did NOT want to leave. ALL the way to the parking lot she repeated, "Want to see it aGAIN, Moooom..." There was little I could do to console her as we were in the middle of a herd of people leaving the tents. By the time we hit the parking lot she had tears streaming and was about to hit the wall. She was reaching for the tents and telling me to put her down. I was so ready to just turn around and buy more tickets for the 8PM show.

We bought the DVD of Corteo and the girls watched it yesterday. I had to bust out the camera since they were trying to imitate some of the performers. I will upload that in the next couple of days.

If Corteo comes to a town near you, don't miss it!! It really is a spectacular event.

Unique of the Week

Dillen's very special friend, Haley, attends a local preschool and it was her turn to bring in something special to share with her classmates. She chose Dillen. :) So, this morning, I drove Dillen down to the school where Haley was waiting to walk her into the classroom. I have subbed at the school a few times and I am very impressed with how wonderfully down-to-earth it is - an oasis for children with a bit of a granola-touch. I wasn't worried that Dillen would be shy (HA!), scared, or not want to participate but I wasn't ready for her blatant brushing me off as I was leaving. When I told her for the 3rd time that I was going (because she never acknowledged me the first or second time), she gave me a look like "I KNOW already!" and waved her hand. I drove home with Roxy and played with her for a couple of hours until it was time to pick up Dillen. Though she didn't say she wanted to stay or go back tomorrow, she did say in the car on the way home, "I am SO ready for Kindergarten, Mom!"

Yeah. But am I?

Cupcake Fun

So. I'm 30-something. And I've never baked cupcakes. Or I have and it's been so long I don't remember the experience. How sad is that? Especially since I have a 2 and almost 5 year old. Tonight, Dillen, Roxy and I had some fun (Sean helped with the flour and then had to meet with some clients). Thank you to Grandma Barbara who bought us the cupcake stand - which Roxy found tonight and asked for a cupcake - which resulted in this:
